Brig. Gen. Mervin G. McConnel (1882-1948) obituary
The Civilian Conservation Corps "Camp McConnel" was named after Mervin. It operated under his supervision during the period he was Adjunct General. The CCC cantonment area in Boise was located off Reserve Street near the old Boise Armory. The old State Forestry Building, now the Log Cabin Literary Center, on Capitol Boulevard was also part of the CCC operation.
Mervin G. McConnel was also a homesteader, as was his father, uncles and cousins. In July 1923 he received an Original Entry Homestead Patent for 160 acres, the SE 1/4 of Section 9, Township 5 North, Range 3 West, B.M., Canyon County, Idaho. (This tract lies at the northwest corner of the intersection of El Paso Road and Sand Hollow Road.)
