Notes:

The information, except where noted, is from Mrs. Lorena Estlow Hyde's 1983 unpublished McConnel family history. She is the granddaughter of John Wesley McConnel, great-granddaughter of William McConnel, child 1 above. In her introduction Mrs. Hyde tells of visiting courthouses, cemeteries and original homestead sites - a valuable and special legacy for the rest of us who have not traveled to these locations! However, Mrs. Hyde does not always tell us what documents she saw at the various courthouses. Since she has the exact dates of birth of the younger children, who were minors when James and Fanny died, I am guessing that she saw a probate document.

Robert McConnell includes a Rachel b. in 1817. Possibly this is the same person who Mrs. Hyde shows as Elizabeth - Rachel Elizabeth? Elizabeth Rachel? Or possibly the grave that Mrs. Hyde found was not that of a descendant of James and Fanny.

Cecil Larsen on RootsWeb, World Connect Data Base "workfile" includes Samuel and his descendants, b. in 1817. Possibly Samuel and Elizabeth Rachel were twins. Obviously there are no easy answers in this generation and more research is needed to resolve unanswered questions.
