The family was there in 1892 when the Government Land Office Surveyors came through. At that time B. C. McConnel was in the SE 1/4 SE 1/4 of Sec. 2, T10N,R2E,BM. (Survey detail)

The High Valley post office was established October 17, 1911, by Naomi Beal. It was discontinued fourteen months later, with the mail going to Ola. It was re-opened six weeks later with Lydia Beal as postmistress and continued to operate until the end of October, 1917, when the mail went to Smith's Ferry. Correspondence prior to 1911 shows McConnels receiving their mail from Ola. An earlier post office named simply High operated from October 1891 to November 1892, with Nathaniel F. VanFonen as postmaster. It was in the SE 1/4 of Section 10. (see 1892 GLO survey)

The Pinehurst post office on Dry Buck was established July 31, 1903, by Helen Waters, and continued until February 1918, when mail went to Gardena. Roy bought the lumber for his house from one of the sawmills on Dry Buck.
