McConnel Island Homesteads

The above is a copy of the Canyon County Assessors' Office patent book. On some properties the dates are earlier than the dates the patents were issued and are probably the filing dates.

By the time of the 1900 census, David was the only McConnel living in the area known as McConnel Island.

Present-day Scott Pitt Road dead-ends in Benjamin's 1880's holdings, with David's homestead west of the road and Charles' to the east. Hexon Road is on the south side of Mary McConnel's and Neil McCarron's homesteads.

South bank of McConnel Isl.

December 2008 we accessed the south bank of the south channel on a "sportsman access" lane, probably on George's original homestead. A hundred-plus years ago the bank would probably have been lined with native willows instead of aggressive, non-native false indigo. The wild turkey flock we saw on Benjamin's homestead would not have been there either, as they too are non-native.
