EMMETT — Roy Curtis McConnel, 81, died in a local hospital Wednesday morning after a short illness.
Mr. McConnel was born June 10, 1881, at Dixie near Caldwell and later moved with his parents to High Valley and in 1897 to Boise. He returned to High Valley in 1902 when he took up a homestead. He worked as a packer in the Thunder Mountain mining area of Valley County and was clerk of the School Board of Valley County for 10 years. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Mr. McConnel was married on Nov. 25, 1915, to Alma Carlson in High Valley.
In 1943, they bought a place south of Emmett and for a couple of years farmed both in Emmett and in High Valley. In 1945 they sold the ranch in High Valley, settling in Emmett permanently, finally settling on 40 acres on the Bench.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, William C. McConnel of Emmett, Rev. Neal McConnel of Sandpoint, and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Beatty Chapel here with Rev. Rex Lawson officiating. Interment will be at Emmett.
